Associate Pastor.
Journey Christian Church seeks a qualified, passionate, Kingdom-minded pastor to serve as an associate.
Overview
A successful candidate will be outgoing, enthusiastic, adventurous, and sincerely devoted to Jesus Christ. As the key pastoral associate, this person’s responsibilities will be varied, including speaking, overseeing staff members, leading existing organisations, and developing new strategies to carry out the mission and values of the church.
This position is permanent and full-time. Candidates should have appropriate education and successful experience in associate and/or senior pastoral ministry. Excellent communication, organisation, and people skills are required for this level of position.
Journey Christian Church is a growing church in beautiful northern Minnesota. Current staff includes Lead pastor, Youth pastor, worship coordinator, CE director, office and cleaning staff. Attendance during our three weekend services averages about 405 attenders.
Our fastest growth is an influx of young families seeking ministry for their families. A new associate pastor will help with the integration of families and facilitate strategies of discipleship for these children, as well as continuity of discipleship for older ages and adults.

Principal functions:
- 1. Participate in the pastoral process of making disciples through preaching, teaching,
mentoring, counselling, empowering, and connecting.
2. Lead or oversee various ministries in the church as assigned (such as CE, worship,
LifeGroups, Marriage groups, etc.)
3. Serve in the absence of the Lead Pastor when called upon.
4. Oversee maintenance staff and physical campus, vehicles, etc.
Reports to: Lead Pastor and/or elder board
Position review: By the Lead Pastor and an elder on an annual basis. Any changes in the job assignments made during the previous year will be reevaluated, clarified, and/or corrected during the annual review. Following the annual review, the cost-of-living increases will be considered distinct from merit pay raises or bonuses for highly rated job performance or long-term reliability.
Qualifications. The Associate Pastor should be:
1. Reliable — able to win the confidence of fellow staff and attenders.
2. Approachable —able to relate well with staff, volunteers, and attenders.
3. Motivating — able to manage others by inspiring confidence and team spirit.
4. Likeable — possessing an outgoing personality with regular and new attenders.
5. Flexible — able to fit personal gifts and ambitions within the larger vision and goals of
the church; able to take direction from Lead Pastor and input from leadership teams.
6. Creative — able to innovate, plan, and excitingly organise ministries.
7. Communication— works hard to be clear and concise in written and oral
communication and speaking opportunities.
8. Team player— a servant leader inspiring the success of other groups.
Primary responsibilities:
1. Coordinate staff and leaders of departments given responsibility for.
2. Recruit, screen and train effective leaders and workers.
3. Lead and/or coordinate various activities, outreaches and events as assigned.
4. Speak at weekend services on a rotating basis as assigned.
5. Champion the “Family Strong” value of Journey Church.
6. Evaluate and provide effective models of discipleship and Biblical instruction for all
ages of attenders.
7. Assist in developing and monitoring an annual budget and maintain accurate and
timely financial accounting.
8. Work with the youth pastor and Christian Education director to encourage seamless
and strategic continuation of family ministry.
